Program Note
Short Symphony is a single-movement orchestral piece I wrote and analysed for my Master's dissertation in 2024. Although It was my intention to create a larger body of work (two movements), I had to limit the ideas and duration to reach my university's deadline. I have always been inspired by Russian composers, as my parents both were scholars who studied Russian literacy inuniversity, and I have been early introduced to composers such as Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky, Which i think influenced the way I have written for the orchestra in this piece. At the time, I was also largely inspired by techniques of metric modulation used by Elliot carter, and wanted to explore new pulses and rhythmic possibilities in my narrative.

Short Symphony is not a piece of grand gesture, but of compressed drama and evolving symmetry, where familiar forms are refracted through a lens of temporal and thematic fluidity. It aims to balance unity and variety, clarity and ambiguity—suggesting a sonic landscape that is both structured and open-ended.
